Ok, by now everyone should have seen The Watchmen trailer. If you haven't, you suck.

The song is "The Beginning is the End is the Beginning" by the Smashing Pumpkins. It's from the Batman and Robin soundtrack, but don't get it confused with "The End is the Beginning is the End" since the lyrics are slightly different as well as the tempo as well as the feel. Quu was able to get it for me and I've been looping it since last night. >_>;; Listening to it, I've always caught a few lyrics here and there, but not everything. So, after having just pulled it up.. holy cow! Get a load of this:

Send a heartbeat to
The void that cries through you
Relive the pictures that have come to pass
For now we stand alone
The world is lost and blown
And we are flesh and blood disintegrate
With no more to hate

Is it bright where you are
Have the people changed
Does it make you happy you're so strange
And in your darkest hour
I hold secrets flame
We can watch the world devoured in it's pain

Delivered from the blast
The last of a line of lasts
The pale princess of a palace cracked
And now the kingdom comes
Crashing down undone
And I am a master of a nothing place
Of recoil and grace

Is it bright where you are
Have the people changed
Does it make you happy you're so strange
And in your darkest hour
I hold secrets flame
We can watch the world devoured in it's pain

Time has stopped before us
The sky cannot ignore us
No one can separate us
For we are all that is left
The echo bounces off me
The shadow lost beside me
There's no more need to pretend
Cause now I can begin again

Is it bright where you are
Have the people changed
Does it make you happy you're so strange
And in your darkest hour
I hold secrets flame
We can watch the world devoured in it's pain
Strange
Strange
Strange
Dunno about you, but forget Batman, this song fits Watchmen perfectly. Both versions actually.

Yea, my last post was from my iphone and for certain reasons I had to finish the post early. That's the disadvantage of posting from a webapp.

Anyway, After late lunch the three of us headed to Dick Blicks up on Highway 92. It was fun, and I even managed to get out of there without buying anything. Was finally able to use my Evernote how I want and take good notes on prices for some lightboxes. I really would like to try my hand at original scrollworking but I just can't draw freehand to save my life. I found out the secret is to find the image you want, trace it onto tracing paper with thick/dark lines, then put the tracing paper under the paper and use the lightbox to make it shine through so you can copy it to the actual paper. Nifty hun?

After escaping from Dick Blicks we ran over to Target so Tanya could get some more of her catbox system. She uses the Breeze system by Tidy Cat which is very different. It has a pad under the litterbox where the urine seeps through. The poop stays in the box and the large pellets then dry it out so it scoops out very easy. looking at the pricing, if you keep up with it i think the overall price goes down from real catlitter. I'm tempted to go ahead and give it a try with our cats.

As we were leaving Target we all got a craving for chocolate and wanted to head over to the Schakolad Chocolate Factory in Alpharetta when I looked it up and they close at 5pm on saturdays. Or so I thought. You see, the Alpharetta store isn't LISTED on their website yet so I had to look at the Dunwoody store and THEY close at 5pm. However, I just now looked at the google listing and it says they close at 6pm. I hope Tanya and Laura never find out least they skin me alive. Realizing we were heading in the wrong direction, we hop on 400 and take the interstate around and home. Get to the house and pick up Pat then decide to go over to Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner.

I have finally tried all the sauces they have within my spice range and have found the few that I actually like. I'm going to have to ask for a side of ranch dressing with my order just to cut the spice periodically. But, it was good. We got one of the Buzztime quiz machines and between the four of us we managed to get in first place quite a bit. More than anything it was just plain fun. After dinner we went next door to the Yogoday yogurt shop. It LOOKS like a Japanese cafe straight out of Tokyo. Full of anime paraphernalia and everything. I think it's Italian yogurt though. Much like softserve. However, I suggest to anyone going there to first TRY the flavors they have. I love them all, but don't mistake "Plain" with "Vanillia". It's NOT. So far they have Plain, Green Tea, and Coffee.

Well, I'm POed right now because I lost my old "Rounded Rectangles" theme and I don't know how to get it back. I wouldn't mind changing except all the new theme designers decided that it wasn't necessary to have separators between entries which renders my friends page near unreadable.

Going to go sulk now.
J!NX : DrHorrible - Clothing for Gamers & Geeks:
I'm soo tempted. So very very tempted.
today has been a good day. First woke up and got some bills and stuff sorted before Tanya came and picked me up. We went to petsmart for petfood and whatnot. Stopped by officemax cause she needed some shipping supplies. By that point Laura was awake so we picked her up and went to grab some foodage.

We went to a Mexican place near where they live. Not bad at all.

Nerdgasm: Watchmen Trailer Hits Web a Day Early:
The trailer is due to hit the web tomorrow, but Empire put it up early by accident before quickly pulling it down. Not quickly enough! So, what say you?

Yes... I'm sure you all can hear my screams of joy from wherever you are, probably still echoing through the ethernet along with all the other screams of joy from the geeks in the world. BTW, if you haven't read this comic yet, feel free to come over and read it. I'll only loan it out after I've finished reading it again myself. Yes, most of the costumes have been updated and modernized, but to me that only adds to it. The only one that looks -drasticly- different is Ozymandias, but [info]quu says it has gold trim on it. Dunno. Looks cool just hope it stays with the whole 'goldenboy' image he's supposed to have.

Anyway, what are you doing still reading this?!? GO WATCH IT NOW!!!!!!!!
When I finally managed to get my new iphone, the first thing [info]tatianamik & [info]internetbrain say is "You have to get Pandora Radio". At first I'm wondering why on earth would I want an internet radio station on my phone when I can use my entire iTunes Library at last.. but then [info]rhast piped in and said I needed to check it out so I caved. So will you when you hear about all of this.

One of the difficult parts for me was having to wrap my head around what Pandora actually is. It really is like flipping through radio stations. Each 'station' will have themes, similarities, etc. How it obtains those 'seeds' are up to you. For better explanation, I'm going to take you through the process of getting setup. It's how my mind works, so bare with me.

When you first go to Pandora you can get started right away without even having to create your own account. Everything is available to you except saving your stations and whatnot. I highly suggest making an account, even if you don't want to bother with creating your own stations. Other users on Pandora can make their own stations and you're welcome to find them and use them. You can see my profile as an example.

So, how do you find channels to listen to? Pick a song out of your head. Hover over the "Share" button and click "Find a shared station". Type in the name and do a search. Depending on the song there might be some stations up or not. You can type anything you want into the station search: song name, artist name, keywords, etc. Feel free to experiment and find all the stations you want.

While you are listening to a station you can vote on a song to say if you liked it or not. Why should you? Well, if you like it, Pandora then takes a look at the qualities of that song and tries to make sure that the rest of the songs it puts in the station match. It's not 100% perfect, but it's pretty good at it. If you tell it you don't like the song, then it removes that song from the station and whatever qualities that made it different it will try to ignore. One thing to note: if you try voting on a 'shared' station that someone else made, to make your vote count it will have to copy the station to your own listing then apply whatever changes you make. This means that if the original author makes any changes, you won't see them because effectively you're now listening to a different channel. This can be good if you find a channel you like but want to customize it to your taste. However, I simply prefer to make my own stations from the ground up.

To make your own station, it is pretty easy. Remember that song in your head that you really like? Well, this time, instead of going under the "Share" button go under the "About the Music" button and click on "Find a Song". After you do the search for the song, go to that song's page and you'll see many things. From a blurb about the song, comments from other users, and a bunch of buttons under the album cover on the left. If it's a song you really like, I suggest clicking the "Bookmark this Song" so you have easy access to it later. The next thing you can do is click "Create A Station".

That will start a whole new station based around the qualities of that one song. If you want to do an artist rather than song that's fine too. The only two things you can't do is base one on a 'style' (ie Pop, Classical, Rock) or on a particular album. At first it confused me why they wouldn't allow style, but then I realized that 'style' is very subjective. I might call something rock and you might call it alternative, etc. And how many times have you gotten an mp3 and found it's genera completely mislabeled? No, it uses things like tempo, musical key, instruments, vocal types, etc to form the channel. But I digress.

Now you've just made your first channel. But, it's very vague and not completely what you want. Time to customize it! Your first option is of course doing the thumbs up or thumbs down on a song, but you can do other things like add more songs and artists. So go to your profile page. It should open in a new window and leave your radio playing. If you look over on the far left of the window there will be a box labeled "Stations". Click on the name of your station to open up it's full listing. (Clicking the blue button with a white arrow will simply start playing that station, not edit it.)

On the station's profile, you can do many things. The first is edit the station name and description. I find it better to label the station with what style I want it to portray and then add in a blurb about what artists and styles I'm looking for in the channel. If you do edit the name, you'll need to refresh your radio window/tab for it to update. The next two sections are the important ones however: Artist Seeds and Song Seeds. The more seeds you have, the more qualities Pandora will have to apply to form the songlist for the station. You can easily add the choices right there on the page by clicking the "Add" button to the section you want to add to and filling in the artist or song title. Added something you now want to remove? That's easy too. Just check the box next to the song or artist and click the "Remove" button.

Another good thing you can do on this page is correct any "Thumbs up" or "Thumbs Down" you've made to the songs on this station. I've already had it where I made some choices on a station I made that then completely changed the style of music I was getting off the station. The biggest thing to remember when applying a rating is this: Does this song BELONG on this station? Yes, you might LIKE it, but does it belong there? If you like it, you can hover your mouse over the song information in the player and between the thumbs up and down you'll see a small arrow pointed up. There are several options, but one is the "Bookmark" where you can choose to bookmark the artist or the actual song. One other option I've fallen in love with is the "Move song to another station". That will give it a thumbs down in the current station but give it a thumbs up in the selected one. Very handy indeed!

Once I had a station playing in the background I then went to town on the search page and bookmarked all the artists I liked, picked out specific songs I love, etc. Now I'm going through and putting channels together by going through my bookmarks. I'm still remember stuff I like. So happy it's all dynamic. And the best thing is.. you get to find new artists and songs!

There are a lot more options and tons more information in the FAQ. I strongly suggest going through it sometime.

My only real wish is that I'd be able to listen to Pandora on my iphone in the background. But that's not Pandora's fault, that's an Apple decision.
Bleh..

Really, I haven't been posting because I haven't had much to say. Been in and out of a depressed funk since I've been home. Most of it is just dealing with leftover stress from my trip. Getting used to things down here again is rough. I'm loving being home but it's not easy.

One of the best things, if y'all haven't figured it out by now, is that I managed to get an iPhone this past Monday. Woke up and went with [info]quu to work, [info]tatianamik actually going with us. After dropping Quu off at work, Tanya and I went over to North Point Mall where there is an Apple store. It opens at 10:00 am and we probably get there around 10:45 am. There is already a line, and they are already sold out. A bit frustrated, I drag Tanya over to the Gamestop or whatever it is that is there in the mall and ask if they have any Wii Fits... none. We then walk over and end up touring in the Waldenbooks for a bit. See all sorts of blank journals and whatnot, but I already have tons. Nearly got some book marks, but Tanya persuaded me to check back at the Apple store one more time to see if I could get a card to cut in line the next day. We get down there and one of the apple clerks is handing out more tickets. I ask, and yep.. they had gotten more instock while we were away. All they had left where some 8gigs and some 16gigs in white. Ick.. but.. I can live with it. Get a card and the two of us stay in line for probably two hours.

The line was pretty ok. A young guy and an older man behind us, a 'business casual' guy in front of us. Talked to some people who were asking questions before moving on. My knees were hurting bad by the time we get in, but it was livable. At long last we get up at the front of the line and after what seemed like forever had a sale's rep free up. I go in, give him my ticket and he heads back to go get it out of the stock room. I'm looking at the cases and stuff until he returns. When he does so, he hands me a box, and I notice it's black. My initial reaction was happy surprise! Maybe they had a black 16 gig! But then i notice... 8gig. WTF? Yea, he proceeds to tell me they didn't have anymore in stock. My brain is going "WTF, WHY ME?!" while my mouth keeps saying "She had more cards, there are others BEHIND me who have been told they had them in stock!" He says, "We're sold out of the 16gigs, but you can make due with an 8gig right?" I flat out tell him no, it's not enough. I should have told him "Hun, my house measures in terabytes, not gigs, so no this isn't going to be nearly big enough." He heads back into the stock room to check once more and I'm about ready to burst into tears while Tanya is ready to go nuclear and destroy the store. At least she was thinking "Can she at least get a card to get one tomorrow so she can skip the line?". Anyway, the guy comes back... with a shiny white box in his hands. "Luckily the manager had set some aside as 'emergency stock' for just these occasions." Yea, right. I know for a fact that the flat rule to all Apple and ATT stores is "SELL THEM ALL". They are not supposed to hold any back for whatever reason. Hell, Quu's seen memo's that went out to all ATT employees saying "If you don't -need- one, let the customers get them first."

So, I get my 16gig in white, nearly freak because Tanya forgot to warn me we needed a credit card, but thankfully Quu had just made me zero out my Discover card. I was waiting for him to say "we don't accept discover" in all honesty. But then next thing I know it's mine, it's activated, and I'm heading over to the accessories in this state of shock. They didn't have any docking stations, but that's ok. It's useful but not needed. Got a case but not sure if I'm going to stick with it or not. It has a belt clip as well as an armband. Nifty huh? Also got the car charger (with extra wall plug and mini usb cable) and a retractable Aux cable.

All in all I'm quite happy with it. Still getting used to it, but that's expected. I can now ditch all the "Agendus" software I had, which is good as it kept crashing my Outlook. I do need to go in and clean up my contacts though. A few things I don't like: Can't edit/rotate pictures I've synced from my computer, aim gets wiggy due to the 'no background processes' shit from apple, limit of 10 custom ringtones, still very very few Apps for it yet. I'm waiting for a blogging app for LJ and Wordpress. Web Apps galore but still few native apps. It will come in time though. My biggest love is Pandora radio. I'm gonna make a new post about that later.

Anyway, I've spent far too long typing this up.

Replacing this with the better writeup I had over on my Wordpress blog.

Yesterday I purchased my new 16gig iphone and was very happy to wave goodbye to my old Treo 650 which had lived long beyond it’s mileage. It wasn’t until late last night when I was playing around with my custom settings that I found out I couldn’t add my own custom ringtones. My friend informed me that Apple had set it up that you had to pay double through the itunes store in order to get them which greatly upset me.

This morning I decided to do a bit of research. My friend linked me a nice program that did all the snipping and importing of the songs for you, but it was a paid program with only a small taste test of what you could do. This was not pleasing to me. I am a music and ringtone junky. I love to have my friends each have their own ringtone so I know who’s calling with out even looking.

Unable to find anywhere that explained a simple way to do your own ringtones without paying for it, I tried multiple ways to get the ringtone into itunes, all without success. Finally broke down and tried the paid software demo. My hunch paid off and I found out what I needed.

1) Pick out your Source – I’ve got a pretty extensive library, but I want to make sure that the song is loud enough to jar my attention when it’s ringing, as well as clear enough to make out.

2) Edit your clip – Most songs start out soft or have a blank second or so in the front. That is not good for a ringtone. Most of my ringtones are around 20 seconds long, but I think you can go longer. Since I’m a PC person, I just use the free Wavepad from NCH Software.

3) Save your clip in M4A format – Most audio editors should be able to do this, or you can use a file converter. Switch from NCH Software is perfect if you need to do bulk conversions. There are also multiple online file converters. A good list is over on MakeUseOf.

4) Change extension to M4R – I just open up the folder I saved my ringtones to and edit it straight in the OS. Don’t worry about any warnings you get about it being possibly unusable.

5) Drag the M4R into iTunes – M4R is a useable format for iTunes so all you have to do is drag it into iTunes and it will add it to the Ringtones library. I’ve read before that it’s a good idea to add only one ringtone at a time or you might get multiples of the same ringtone rather than all of your different ones.

6) Sync your iPhone – You can now choose the custom ringtone from your list. Your overall ringtone is in the Settings/Sounds menu. If you edit your contacts directly you can assign custom ringtones for each one.

Yes folks, it’s as simple as that. As far as I know this should work for both PC and MAC users. I don’t think there is a limit on how many or how large your ringtones can be, but I’m not exactly sure so be careful with your experiments. Remember that your phone rolls over to voicemail after a certain time period so it’s pointless to make anything longer than that. Typically shorter ones will loop, but I haven’t tried it out myself just yet.

Enjoy!

---

UPDATE: After adding my other ringtones, the iphone itself is limited to carrying only 10 ringtones at once. Sad Leth. If someone finds out differently without jailbreaking their phone, please comment and let me know.

Well, yesterday made it down to Jackson, Mississippi. The trip was smooth though somewhat exciting. Not all my twitters came through over Jott for some reasons. But.. up in North Batesville there were two big fires. One was a small wheat field I actually got pictures of, the other was further west and I can only assume it was a wheat field as well. I only know cause I pulled off at a gas station and asked. Was a good thing too cause they had my Sobe "Lizard Lightening" (Orange Mango combo that I can't find anywhere anymore). To tell you how big this fire was, the smoke rose up so high that it hit the upper levels of the atmosphere. The top part was going east while the long column under it was blowing west. Then when I'm leaving the gas station I see the flames in the field BEHIND the station. OMGWTF! So yea, I have pictures on my phone. I should post them later.. after I find it.

Further south there was another fire on the east side of I55 near Canton I think. Don't know what that was. Didn't seem as bad as the Batesville fire though.

I did stop by the big factory outlet mall in Batesville a few miles after that truck stop. Got a good dress and some new shoes as well as a much needed pair of shorts. After I crossed the Mason-Dixon line I started to die in the car. Gods I love the south. Today I take [info]rhast down to New Orleans. It's a long story but his sister is getting married and my car is a -little- bit better than his so I'm driving him down there for it. Bonus is I get to see New Orleans with a native as well as see Kev and Cat. Only downside is that I now am driving home on Sunday but that's ok. I need to call [info]echuir and see if he's off work on sunday.
